Cultural Exchange
Two days. One kitchen. A tradition you've never cooked beside.
Intercambio Cultural
Dos días. Una cocina. Una tradición junto a la que nunca has cocinado.
The Picture
Imagine arriving in Oaxaca City on a morning when the air still carries woodsmoke from the night before. Your host takes you to Mercado de Abastos — not as a tourist, but as a cook. You walk past mountains of dried chiles, stacks of hand-pressed tortillas, vendors selling chapulines and mole paste from recipes that haven't changed in generations. Beside you is a chef who knows every corner of this market. This is where the exchange begins.
Común Root pairs you with a chef rooted in Mexican tradition for two days of genuine exchange. You walk markets together. You share a kitchen. You trade technique, ingredient knowledge, and the stories behind how you each cook the way you do. On the second evening, that conversation becomes a meal — a salon dinner for 20–24 guests where the exchange is the centerpiece.
This is not fusion. It is recognition.

The kind of material that takes months to produce on your own. Here, it's built into the residency.
All of it is yours to use however you choose. We build archives, not content.

About Oaxaca
Oaxaca City sits in a high valley in southern Mexico, surrounded by Sierra Madre mountains. One of the most important culinary cities in the Americas — and the reason Común Root starts here.
